Knowing
God
Just once wouldn't you love for someone to simply show you
the evidence for God's existence? No arm-twisting. No statements
of, "You just have to believe." Well, here is an
attempt to candidly offer some of the reasons which suggest
that God exists But first consider this. If a person opposes
even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence
can be rationalized or explained away. It is like if someone
refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then
no amount of information is going to change their thinking.
Satellite footage of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews
with the astronauts, moon rocks...all the evidence would be
worthless, because the person has already concluded that people
cannot go to the moon.
When it comes to the possibility of God's existence,
the Bible says that there are people who have seen sufficient
evidence, but they have suppressed the truth about God.
On the other hand, for those who want to know
God if He is there, He says, "You will seek me and find
me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found
by you.
Before you look at the facts surrounding God's
existence, ask yourself, If God does exist, would I want to
know Him? Here then, are some reasons to consider.
In the meantime, we pray for your life. If any questions,
contact us.
How To Know God?
1. Realize that you are a sinner.
No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably
short of being a good person. That is because we are all sinners.
We all fall short of God’s desire for us to be holy.
The Bible says, “No one is good—not even one”
(Romans 3:10 NLT). This is because we can not become who we
are supposed to be without Jesus Christ.
2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross
for you.
The Bible tells us, “But God showed His great love for
us by sending Christ to die for us while were still sinners”
(Romans 5:8 NLT). This is the Good News, that God loves us
so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when
we least deserved it.
3. Repent of your sin.
The Bible tells us to “repent and be converted”
(Acts 3:19 NKJV). The word repent means to change our direction
in life. Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him.
4. Receive Jesus Christ into your life.
Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or
going to church on Sunday. It is having Christ Himself take
residence in your life and heart. Jesus said, “Behold,
I stand at the door (of your life) and knock. If anyone hears
My voice and opens the door, I will come in . . . .”
(Revelation 3:20 NKJV).
If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, simply
pray this prayer and mean it in your heart.
Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe you died
for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door
of my heart and life. I confess you as my personal Lord and
Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
If you just prayed that prayer and meant it, Jesus Christ has
now taken residence in your heart! Your decision to follow Christ
means God has forgiven you and that you will spend eternity
in heaven. The Bible tells us, “If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us
from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 NKJV).
To put your faith in action, be sure to spend time with God by reading your
Bible, praying, going to church, and telling others about
Christ. Call the church office at (714) 745-8616) and ask
to speak with one of our pastors about your new life in Christ.

Does God Want to Know Me?
According to the Bible, you are God's masterpiece, or
"workmanship" (Ephesians 2:10). He created you in
His image (Genesis 1:27). God has incredible love for you
(John 3:16). Hebrews 1:2 tells us God is speaking to you today.
The reason we have difficulty discerning Him is:
"But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will
not hear." (Isaiah 59:2)
"The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of
men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good, No, not one." (Psalm 14:2,3)

Who or what is God?
"God is Spirit.." (John 4:24) and "...a spirit
does not have flesh and blood." (Luke 24:39)
The Bible tells us that God has revealed himself to man through
the prophets:
"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke
in time past to the fathers by the prophets" (Hebrews
1:1).
The writings of the prophets became the Holy Bible:
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine..." (2 Timothy 3:16).
The final revelation of God came through his Son, Jesus:
"No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son,
who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him."
(John 1:18)
Jesus said "I and My Father are one." (John 10:31).
When God spoke to Moses, Moses asked God ...
... for his name. "And God said to Moses, "I AM
WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the
children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" (Exodus
3:14)
When the Jewish leaders were questioning Jesus about his identity,
he responded by saying, "Most assuredly, I say to you,
before Abraham was, I AM." (John 8:58) Jesus declared
himself to be God. He was either God, a liar or a lunatic.
You do not call someone who called himself God a good teacher
unless he truly was God. If you consider Jesus only a good
teacher, and do not believe He is God, you are calling him
a liar or a lunatic. You cannot have it both ways.
The word "Trinity" is not found in the Bible. Yet
the Bible declares this doctrine. First, God is revealed as
being one God:
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! (Deuteronomy
6:4)
with three distinct persons:
"...baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19)
"..elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,
in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling
of the blood of Jesus Christ..." (1 Peter 1:2)
Because of this, we can have assurance of salvation. If Jesus
is not God, then his death on the cross could not pay the
price for all men's sins. If Jesus and the Father are not
both God yet distinct persons, how could Jesus pray to God
while He was here on earth? If the Holy Spirit is not God,
then how could we grieve Him (4:30), lie to Him (Acts 5:3)
or blaspheme Him (Matthew 12:32, Mark 3:29, Luke 12:10)?
There are many gods that people worship. If your god is not
the God of the Bible, revealed as the Father, Son and Holy
Spirit, you worship a false god. Listen to what Jeremiah said
in Jeremaih 10:
"But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and
the everlasting King." (Jeremiah 10:10)
Who is the true God? Compare 1 John:
"And we know that the Son of God has come and has given
us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and
we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is
the true God and eternal life." (1 John 5:20)
If Jesus is not your God, then you do not know God. He wants
to know you.
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted
among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (Psalm
46:10)

Am I in God's hands?
A basketball in my hands is worth about $19. A basketball
in Michael Jordan's hands is worth about $33 million. It depends
whose hands it's in.
A baseball in my hands is worth about $6. A baseball in
Mark McGwyre's hands is worth $19 million. It depends whose
hands it's in.
A tennis racket is useless in my hands. A tennis racket
in Pete Sampras' hands is a Wimbledon Championship. It depends
whose hands it's in.
A rod in my hands will keep away a wild animal. A rod in
Moses' hands will part the mighty sea. It depends whose hands
it's in.
A sling shot in my hands is a kid's toy. A sling shot in
David's hands is a mighty weapon. It depends whose hands it's
in.
Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of
fish sandwiches. Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in God's hands
will feed thousands. It depends whose hands it's in.
Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse. Nails in Jesus
Christ's hands will produce salvation for the entire world.
It depends whose hands it's in.
As you see now, it depends whose hands it's in. So put your
concerns, your worries, your fears, your hopes, your dreams,
your families and your relationships in God's hands because,
you see, It depends whose hands it's in.

1. Does God exist?
Throughout history, in all cultures of the world, people
have been convinced there is a God.
Billions of people, who represent diverse sociological, intellectual,
emotional, educational makeups...believe that there is a Creator,
a God to be worshipped. Now, the fact that so many people
believe something certainly doesn't make it true. But when
so many people through the ages are so personally convinced
that God exists, can one say with absolute confidence that
they are all mistaken?
"Anthropological research has indicated that among the
farthest and most remote primitive people today, there is
a universal belief in God. And in the earliest histories and
legends of people all around the world, the original concept
was of one God, who was the Creator. An original high God
seems once to have been in their consciousness even in those
societies which are today polytheistic."3

2. Does God exist? The complexity of our planet points to
a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but
sustains it today. Many examples showing God's design could
be given, possibly with no end. But here are a few:
The Earth...its size is perfect. The Earth's size and corresponding
gravity holds a thin layer of mostly nitrogen and oxygen gases,
only extending about 50 miles above the Earth's surface. If
Earth were smaller, an atmosphere would be impossible, like
the planet Mercury. If Earth were larger, its atmosphere would
contain free hydrogen, like Jupiter.4 Earth is the only known
planet equipped with an atmosphere of the right mixture of
gases to sustain plant, animal and human life.
The Earth is located the right distance from the sun. Consider
the temperature swings we encounter, roughly -30 degrees to
+120 degrees. If the Earth were any further away from the
sun, we would all freeze. Any closer and we would burn up.
Even a fractional variance in the Earth's position to the
sun would make life on Earth impossible. The Earth remains
this perfect distance from the sun while it rotates around
the sun at a speed of nearly 67,000 mph. It is also rotating
on its axis, allowing the entire surface of the Earth to be
properly warmed and cooled every day. And our moon is the
perfect size and distance from the Earth for its gravitational
pull. The moon creates important ocean tides and movement
so ocean waters do not stagnate, and yet it restrains our
massive oceans from spilling over across the continents
5 Water...colorless, odorless and without taste, and yet
no living thing can survive without it. Plants, animals and
human beings consist mostly of water (about two-thirds of
the human body is water). You'll see why the characteristics
of water are uniquely suited to life:
It has an unusually high boiling point and freezing point.
Water allows us to live in an environment of fluctuating temperature
changes, while keeping our bodies a steady 98.6 degrees.
Water is a universal solvent. This property of water means
that thousands of chemicals, minerals and nutrients can be
carried throughout our bodies and into the smallest blood
vessels.
6 Water is also chemically inert. Without affecting the makeup
of the substances it carries, water enables food, medicines
and minerals to be absorbed and used by the body.
Water has a unique surface tension. Water in plants can therefore
flow upward against gravity, bringing life-giving water and
nutrients to the top of even the tallest trees.
Water freezes from the top down and floats, so fish can live
in the winter.
Ninety-seven percent of the Earth's water is in the oceans.
But on our Earth, there is a system designed which removes
salt from the water and then distributes that water throughout
the globe. Evaporation takes the ocean waters, leaving the
salt, and forms clouds which are easily moved by the wind
to disperse water over the land, for vegetation, animals and
people. It is a system of purification and supply that sustains
life on this planet, a system of recycled and reused water.
7 The human brain...simultaneously processes an amazing amount
of information. Your brain takes in all the colors and objects
you see, the temperature around you, the pressure of your
feet against the floor, the sounds around you, the dryness
of your mouth, even the texture of this article in your hand.
Your brain registers emotional responses, thoughts and memories.
At the same time your brain keeps track of the ongoing functions
of your body like your breathing pattern, eyelid movement,
hunger and movement of the muscles in your hands.
The human brain processes more than a million messages a second.8
Your brain weighs the importance of all this data, filtering
out the relatively unimportant. This screening function is
what allows you to focus and operate effectively in your world.
A brain that deals with more than a million pieces of information
every second, while evaluating its importance and allowing
you to act on the most pertinent information...can we say
mere chance brought about such an astounding organ?
When NASA launches a shuttle mission, it is assumed a monkey
didn't write the plan, but intelligent and knowledgeable minds.
How does one explain the existence of the human brain? Only
a mind more intelligent and knowledgeable than humanity could
have created the human brain.

3. Does God exist? Mere "chance" is not an adequate
explanation of creation.
Imagine looking at Mount Rushmore, in which the likenesses
of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt are
carved. Could you ever believe that it came about by chance?
Given infinite time, wind, rain and chance, it is still hard
to believe something like that, tied to history, was randomly
formed in the side of a mountain. Common sense tells us that
people planned and skillfully carved those figures.
This article only touches on a few amazing aspects of our
world: the Earth's position to the sun, some properties of
water, one organ in the human body. Could any of these have
come about by chance?
The distinguished astronomer Sir Frederick Hoyle showed how
amino acids randomly coming together in a human cell is mathematically
absurd. Sir Hoyle illustrated the weakness of "chance"
with the following analogy. "What are the chances that
a tornado might blow through a junkyard containing all the
parts of a 747, accidentally assemble them into a plane, and
leave it ready for take-off? The possibilities are so small
as to be negligible even if a tornado were to blow through
enough junkyards to fill the whole universe!"9
When one considers the intricacies of our life and universe,
it is reasonable to think that an intelligent, loving Creator
provided for everything we need for life. The Bible describes
God as the author and sustainer of life.

4. Does God exist? Humankind's inherent sense of right and
wrong cannot be biologically explained.
There arises in all of us, of any culture, universal feelings
of right and wrong. Even a thief gets upset and feels wronged
when someone steals from him. If someone violently grabs a
child from a family and rapes that child, there is an anger
and revulsion and a rage to confront that act as evil, regardless
of the culture. Where did we get this sense of wrongness?
How do we explain a universal law in the conscience of all
people that says murder for fun is wrong?
And in areas like courage, dying for a cause, love, dignity,
duty and compassion, where did these come from? If people
are merely products of physical evolution, "survival
of the fittest," why do we sacrifice for each other?
Where did we get this inner sense of right and wrong? Our
conscience can best be explained by a loving Creator who cares
about the decisions and harmony of humanity.
5. Does God exist? God not only has revealed Himself in
what can be observed in nature, and in human life, but He
has even more specifically shown Himself in the Bible.
God's thoughts, personality, and attitudes can only be known
if God chooses to reveal them. All else would be human speculation.
We are at a loss if God does not wish to be known. But God
wants us to know Him and has told us in the Bible all we need
to know about His character and how to relate to Him. This
makes the reliability of the Bible an important consideration.
Archaeological findings continue to confirm rather than refute
the accuracy of the Bible. For example, an archeological find
in northern Israel in August 1993 confirmed the existence
of King David, author of many of the Psalms in the Bible.10
The Dead Sea Scrolls and other archaeological discoveries
continue to substantiate the historical accuracy of the Bible.
The Bible was written over a 1500-year span, by 40 different
authors, in different locations and on separate continents,
written in three different languages, covering diverse subject
matters at different points in history.11 Yet there is an
astounding consistency in its message. Throughout the entire
Bible the same message appears:
1. God created the world we live in, and created us specifically
to have a relationship with Him.
2. He deeply loves us.
3. We have sinned and are under God's judgment, in need of
His forgiveness.
4. God provided a way for our sins to be forgiven.
5. He asks us to receive His forgiveness and have a relationship
with Him that will last eternally.
Along with this central script, the Bible specifically reveals
God's character. Psalm 145 is a typical summary of God's personality,
thoughts and feelings toward us. If you want to know God,
here He is.

6. Does God exist? Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus
Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God.
Why Jesus? Look throughout the major world religions and you'll
find that Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius and Moses all identified
themselves as teachers or prophets. None of them ever claimed
to be equal to God. Surprisingly, Jesus did. That is what
sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God exists and
you're looking at Him. Though He talked about His Father in
heaven, it was not from the position of separation, but of
very close union, unique to all humankind. Jesus said that
anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed
in Him, believed in the Father.
He said, "I am the light of the world, he who follows
me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."12
He claimed attributes belonging only to God: to be able to
forgive people of their sin, free them from habits of sin,
give people a more abundant life and give them eternal life
in heaven. Unlike other teachers who focused people on their
words, Jesus pointed people to himself. He did not say, "follow
my words and you will find truth." He said, "I am
the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father
but through me."13
What proof did Jesus give for claiming to be divine? He did
what people can't do. Jesus performed miracles. He healed
people...blind, crippled, deaf, even raised a couple of people
from the dead. He had power over objects...created food out
of thin air, enough to feed crowds of several thousand people.
He performed miracles over nature...walked on top of a lake,
commanding a raging storm to stop for some friends. People
everywhere followed Jesus, because He constantly met their
needs, doing the miraculous. He said if you do not want to
believe what I'm telling you, you should at least believe
in me based on the miracles you're seeing.14
What did Jesus reveal about God's personality? What about
God's thoughts, expectations and His feelings toward humankind?
Jesus Christ showed God to be gentle, loving, aware of our
self-centeredness and shortcomings, yet deeply wanting a relationship
with us. Jesus revealed that although God views us as sinners,
worthy of His punishment, His love for us ruled and God came
up with a different plan. God would have His Son receive the
punishment for our sin. And Jesus willingly accepted this
plan.
Jesus was tortured with a whip of nine sharp-tipped ends.
A "crown" of two-inch thorns was pressed into his
head. Then they secured Him to a cross by pounding nails through
His hands and feet into the wood. Given His other miracles,
those nails didn't keep Him on the cross; His love for us
did. Jesus died in our place so we could be forgiven. Of all
the religions known to humanity, only through Jesus will you
see God reaching toward humanity, providing a way for us to
have a relationship with Him. Jesus proves a divine heart
of love, meeting our needs, drawing us to Himself. Because
of Jesus' death we can be forgiven, fully accepted by God
and genuinely loved by God. God says, "I have loved you
with an everlasting love, therefore I have continued my faithfulness
to you."15 This is God, in action.
The most conclusive proof that Jesus is equal to God was Jesus'
most closely scrutinized miracle - His own resurrection from
the dead. Jesus said that three days after His burial He would
come back to life. On the third day after His crucifixion,
the almost two-ton boulder in front of His tomb was catapulted
up a slope.16 The guard of well-trained Roman soldiers saw
a blinding light and an angel. The tomb was empty, except
for the burial clothes that had been wrapped around Jesus'
body. Over the years, legal, historical and logical analysis
has been applied to Jesus' resurrection and the most feasible
conclusion still is that Jesus rose from the dead.
Does God exist? If you want to know, investigate Jesus Christ.
We're told that "God so loved the world that He gave
His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have eternal life."17
Do you want to begin a relationship with God and actually
know you are accepted by Him?
This is your decision, no coercion here. But if you want to
be forgiven by God and come into a relationship with Him,
you can do so right now by asking Him to forgive you and come
into your life. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door
[of your heart] and knock. He who hears my voice and opens
the door, I will come into him [or her]."18 If you want
to do this, but aren't sure how to put it into words, this
may help: "Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins. You
know my life and that I need to be forgiven. I ask you to
forgive me right now and come into my life. Thank you that
you want a relationship with me. Amen."
God views your relationship with Him as permanent. Referring
to all those who believe in Him, Jesus Christ said of us,
"I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal
life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch
them out of my hand."19
So, does God exist? Looking at all these facts, one can conclude
that a loving God does exist and can be known in an intimate,
personal way.

Will God send people to hell?
In Matthew 25:31-46 the Bible teaches the final judgment.
The righteous will enter heaven to enjoy everlasting life
but the wicked will go into eternal punishment. The thought
of everlasting suffering is repulsive to many. To understand
this teaching, you must be willing to study with more than
just a superficial understanding of God's Word.
Hell, despite the denials of many, is real. Sin demands it.
Sin is a violation of the law of God (1 John 3:4). If there
were no punishment for sin, then there could be no law for
law without penalty is null and void. If there is no law,
there would be no sin. That would make the death of Jesus
useless because if there is no sin there is no responsibility
to save anyone from it. Our aversion to hell is equal to our
indifference toward sin. As sin becomes more evil in our minds,
hell becomes more logical.
The reality of life after death also demands the reality of
hell. Jesus taught, in Matthew 22:23-33, that there was life
after physical death. In the account of the rich man and Lazarus
in Luke 16:19-31, two distinct destinies are presented comfort
for the righteous but punishment for the wicked depending
on whether or not one serves God while living on earth.
Hell was not originally prepared for man. It was prepared
for Satan and his angels (Matt. 25:41). Jude 6 states that
fallen angels are placed in chains awaiting judgment. Yet,
when men and women join the devil in his work and live in
servitude to him, they must suffer the same fate that will
befall him.
Hell Is Not Contrary To The Nature of God. Many people find
it difficult to accept the reality of hell because they cannot
understand or believe that a loving, merciful and forgiving
God could create such a place and then place people in it
eternally. If no punishment were given for violation of His
law, then God would not be just. Being a just God, He will
reward the righteous and punish the wicked. Hell is to punish
the wicked. How would you feel about the justice of God if
Adolph Hitler shared the same fate as Mother Theresa? God
is just, and sentenced Hitler to eternal damnation.
What is Hell like? Hell is eternal. It is described that way
in Matthew 25:46. In Romans 16:26 God is said to be eternal.
The Holy Spirit, in Hebrews 9:14, is also described as eternal.
The same Greek word is used in all three passages. The word
means "eternal, everlasting, without end, never to cease."
Hell and the punishment meted out there will last as long
as God forever.
Hell is a place of darkness. Jude 13 speaks of "the blackness
of darkness" to which false teachers will be confined
forever. God is light (1 John 1:5) and the Father of lights
(Jas. 1;17). Hell is described as darkness because it is the
place farthest removed from God.
Top
Hell is a place of fire. Matthew 13:42 speaks of it as a furnace
of fire. Matthew 25:41 calls it an everlasting fire. Mark
9:44-45 says the fire is never quenched. Revelation 21:8 refers
to it as the lake of fire. There will be no relief from its
fires because Revelation 14:11 says the smoke from the fires
of torment ascends forever and ever.
There is no rest there. Revelation 14:11 says the wicked will
have no rest from their torment day or night. Hell is a place
where there is no hope. The punishment is everlasting (Matt.
25:46) with no chance of pardon or parole.
Who Will Go There? As already noted, Satan and his angels
will be there (Matt. 25:41). Revelation 21:8 says the "cowardly,
unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers,
idolaters, and all liars" will be there. 2 Thessalonians
1:7-9 says that those who do not know God and those who will
not obey the gospel of Christ will be punished with everlasting
destruction. In short, all sinners who choose to remain in
their sin will be found in hell. It is merciful for God to
allow people to go to hell who do not want a relationship
with Him as the Lord of the universe. If living your life
for God sounds like hell to you in this lifetime, imagine
living for God for eternity? I believe God deserves my complete
obedience to Him and am convinced that I would want to do
this for eternity. Are you?
Why Will People Go There? People will not be in hell because
God wants them to be there. He desires that all be saved (1
Tim. 2:1-4). They will not be there because God cannot save
them. God is all-powerful and the gospel, His power to save
(Rom. 1:16), can save to the uttermost. God sent His Son into
the world so that all might have salvation (John 3:16) and
He has extended His invitation to all who would come to Him
(Matt. 11:28-30).
If a person ends up in hell, he is lost by his own free choice.
He has no one to blame but himself. Many see no need to be
interested in spiritual things and are indifferent to the
pleas of the gospel. Others refuse to obey the gospel or submit
to the will of God. Some refuse to believe. Others just love
sin more than righteousness. Some, though once obedient, become
unfaithful in service. Many put off obeying until it is too
late.
Conclusion. Hell is real. The suffering of it is waiting for
the sinful. You can escape the torments found there by giving
obedience to Christ now. He will wash away the guilt of your
sins and grant you hope of a life of eternal bliss in His
presence.
If you fear hell, and are unsure of your own salvation, than
you need to receive the free gift of Christ's salvation. Jesus
prayed the night before his crucifixion to God, the Father,
asking if there were any other way that man might be saved,
to let "the cup" of God's wrath pass from Him. There
was no other way. Jesus therefore said, "Not my will,
but yours be done." Jesus paid the ultimate price for
our sins.

If God is so Good and Loving, Why
Does He Allow Evil?
This is a flawed premise since it implies that we are in
a position to say what is good and what is not good about
God. We ourselves do not know what good is naturally, for
we are not basically good. How then can we judge God?
Still, the question of evil persists, and we often hear the
question "why?" in the aftermath of some tragedy.
Remember, when God created the world, He created it perfectly.
That includes His creation of man. Yet, this "perfect"
man was also given the freedom of choice, or an ability to
choose. When Adam chose to disobey God, sin, death and suffering
became an inevitable part of life. Romans 5:12 states, "When
Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam's sin
brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned"
(NLT). The evil in this world is a result of that original
sin.
You may say, "Wait a minute, I didn't choose to sin.
Adam did." Yet, the Bible teaches that we all have sinned
(Romans 3:23). We are not sinners because we sin; we sin because
we are sinners. We have a natural bent in us to do what is
wrong. James 4:1 says that there is a "whole army of
evil desires at war within you." At the same time, God
gave us absolutes to live our lives by—standards that
are found in the Bible. When we make choices that are contrary
to those absolutes and standards, evil is the result.
C. S. Lewis put this question in proper perspective. He observed
that it is idle for us to speculate about the origin of evil.
The=2 0problem we all face is the fact of evil. The only solution
to the fact of evil is God's solution, Jesus Christ [Paul
Little, How to Give Away Your Faith (Downers Grove: InterVarsity
Press, 1966), p. 72]. Once you surrender your life to Jesus
Christ, you enter into the master plan that God has for you.
For that reason, you can be assured of the promise in His
Word, that "everything works together for the good of
those who love God and are called according to His purpose
for them" (Romans 8:28 NLT). Sometimes what appears horribly
evil and tragic can result in something good. Consider Joseph's
assessment of his brother's wicked act of selling him into
slavery. Understanding that God had allowed this to happen
so that he could be a man of power in Egypt, Joseph said,
"God turned to good what you [my brothers] meant for
evil. He brought me to the high position I have today so I
could save the lives of many people" (Genesis 50:20 NLT).
We may not always understand the "why's" of a certain
tragedy, but we know the "Who" that will carry us
through it. He promises, "When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God . . ."(Isaiah 43:2–3a
NIV).

How Can You Christians Say that Jesus
is the Only Way?
Are you saying that if a person does not believe in Jesus
Christ, they are going to hell? Jesus Christ Himself said,
"I am the way, the truth and the life, and no one comes
to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 NKJV). If
humankind could have reached God any other way, Jesus would
not have had to die. His voluntary death on the cross makes
this fact evenmore compelling.
Christians are not superior to any other person. A person
who believes Jesus Christ is the only Son of God and proclaims
that truth is just one beggar telling another beggar where
tofind bread.

Don't All Religions Teach the Same
Thing?
"Don't all roads lead to God?" people often ask.
"If a person is sincere in his or her beliefs, won't
he or she get to heaven?" If you allow that all beliefs
are true, then by what standards do you live? All belief systems
cannot be true, because they cancel each other out. If you
take time to look at what each religion teaches, you'll find
that only Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again. The
Bible teaches that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a
cross for our sins, that He paid that debt in our place, and
that if we will turn from our sin and follow Him, we can be
forgiven and know that we will go to heaven.

How Can A God of Love Send Someone to Hell?
God doesn't send anyone to hell. It was never His design
to send people to hell. It breaks the heart of God to see
people, made in His image, make the deliberate choice to go
to hell. Hell was not made for people; it was made for the
angelic being, Satan, who rebelled against God. In Matthew
25:41, Jesus says the everlasting fire was prepared for the
devil and his angels. Scripture also teaches, "[God]
is not willing that any should perish but that all should
come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). That is why God sent
Jesus to die on the cross in our place—to bridge the
gap between sinful people and a Holy God. The gates of hell
are locked from the inside. If you end up in hell, you will
practically have to climb over Jesus to get there.

The Reason I am Not a Christian is
because There are so Many Hypocrites in the Church.
This excuse is often offered by those who want to continue
to live in darkness. They do not want to be brought into the
light of Jesus Christ. Jesus does not say, "Follow the
church," or "Follow the people." Jesus says,
"Follow me" (Matthew 9:9; Mark 8:34; John 12:26).
We are given the freedom to choose. We have the ability to
sin—to make choices that are against the teachings of
God. Church is not a meeting place for saints, but a hospital
for sinners. The worst sin you can commit is to say no to
God. It is a "Son" issue, not a "sin"
issue. You will find hypocrites in the church because we are
all sinners. You will also find people who are trying to live
their life according to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I Tried Church Before, but It Didn't
Work for Me.
What did you try? Did you go to a church? Did you read the
Bible? Did you ask Christ into your life? Did you trust in
what Jesus claimed? Did you examine the claims of Christ?
Most people know the Ten Commandments and the things that
"thou shalt not" do. But the Bible also commands
us to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with
all your soul, and with all your mind" (Mark 12:30 NKJV).
If you are not doing that, you are falling short in God's
eyes. Christ is real. Many facts substantiate that truth (Even
Satan pr ofessed Jesus' deity). And we shall come face to
face with Him on the Judgment Day (Revelation 20:11–12).
